What is Broadband DSL (Digital Subscriber Line)

DSL is a high speed data channel to the Internet or private network. DSL uses and shares the ordinary telephone line with other devices like the telephone and fax. They can be used simultaneously. DSL connection is "always-on", meaning no phone call charges to the Internet service.

ADSL is asymmetrical because the receive data speed is higher than the transmitted data rate.

SDSL is symmetrical because the send and receive data speed are identical.
